Dry Storage & Hoist Rules

Updated January 2000

1. Registration: All boats in dry storage must be registered with the club manager and have a PYC issued sticker affixed to its trailer, or the bow of a rack-stored boat. The club manager will lock up unregistered boats and fines may be levied. You must pay all fines and register your boat in order to have it unlocked.

2. Storage Priorities: Space in the storage area is limited. Storage priority is given in the order of:

1. PYC Club owned boats

2. Active racing boats *

3. Member boats that actively support PYC racing and training programs

4. Frequently used boats

*Active racing is considered a minimum of 30% participation in club racing.

3. Boat & Trailer Upkeep: Boats and trailers must be maintained in working condition, with trailer tires inflated and hitches functioning. Owners not responding to a maintenance request within 30 days will be asked to remove their boat from the storage yard immediately.

4.  Assigned Spaces:  Boats and trailers shall be kept only in assigned spaces designated by the club manager.  Owners not keeping their boat and trailer in its assigned space will be asked to remove their boat from the storage yard immediately.

5.  Hoist:  Lifting capacity is 4000 pounds maximum, if you are over weight and break it, you fix it at your expense.  After launching your boat, move it clear of the hoist area, upon return don't block the hoist area until your turn to lift out.

6. Vehicles: Vehicles are permitted in the dry storage area only for purposes of maintenance, moving, launching or retrieving boats. Vehicles shall not be left unattended or impede sailing or launching activities.

7. Gates: Gates must be kept closed or locked as posted. If you are the last one out of the yard please close and lock the gate.

8. Hurricane Evacuation: All boats must be evacuated from dry storage during tropical storm or hurricane warning periods when evacuation notices are posted at the club. Boats not removed after owner notification is attempted are subject to being towed away by any means possible. Rig-down tow and storage charges are the responsibility of the owner. Please have a plan for the safe storage of your boat if a storm should come our way and come by the club to see if help is needed in getting the club ready for the storm.

9. Regatta Storage Space: If any of the storage areas are needed for regattas or other purposes, members will be asked to remove their boats from the area for the period of the event. Without response, boats will be removed at owners expense. Please have a plan for moving your boat. We have big regattas 3 or more times a year and you will be asked to move your boat. Check the chart and race schedule and be ready to move your boat.

10.  Guest Boats:  Boats coming in from other clubs must register with the club manager. Boats will be given the use of a space for up to 10 days on a space available basis.  After 10 days the owner will be charged on a monthly basis.  Please see the club manager for fees.

11.Member Temporary Storage: PYC members may store boats in the dry storage yard on a space available basis for a maximum of 10 days at no charge.  Members must register with the club manager before placing a boat in the dry storage yard. If you need storage for more than 10 days please arrange for permanent storage.

12. Boat Maintenance:  Normal maintenance and repairs are permitted. Major repairs, bottom jobs, heavy sanding and painting are not permitted.

13. Travelling:  If you go to a regatta or take your boat out of the yard please inform the club manager of the dates you will be gone.

14. Be a Good Neighbor: Keep your boat and the yard clean. If someone needs help give it. If something needs repair report it. If you have a good idea share it.

15. Authority:  Authorization for maintaining the above rules rests in the PYC Dry Storage Committee, which is comprised of the Commodore, Vice Commodore, One Design Chairman and Club Manager.
